The Weight of a Glass

Why is whisky never served in a wine glass?
In 1895, in Louisville, Kentucky, the Old Fashioned glass appeared for the first time in a catalog. Low, heavy, and cross-cut, it was not about aesthetics but purpose. Its wide shape allowed sugar and bitters to be mixed easily, and its solid base balanced the strength of the drink.
By the 1950s, the glass had become a symbol of masculine power. Frank Sinatra carried it through the clubs of Las Vegas, and in the 60s, Don Draper immortalized it in Mad Men: whisky, ice, and a block of glass as his table companion.

What once seemed like a simple vessel became a cultural icon.
The Old Fashioned turned the act of drinking into a gesture — a man, a sturdy glass, a moment of presence.
At soloio we believe in those details that stand the test of time. In every garment, as in a well crafted glass, design is not only seen, it is felt.
