Sunglasses

Did you know sunglasses were not invented for the sun?
In 1937, in the middle of the war, the U.S. Air Force commissioned Bausch & Lomb to create a lens that would reduce glare for pilots. That is how the Ray-Ban Aviator was born.

In the 1950s, Hollywood turned them into a style weapon: Marlon Brando in The Wild One, James Dean, and the Rolling Stones made them iconic. In the 70s and 80s, they became a symbol of authority worn by police officers, soldiers, and politicians.

By the 90s, rockstars like Bono and films like The Matrix transformed them into the ultimate accessory of modern power. Even Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s wore custom Oliver Goldsmith sunglasses designed just for her.

What began as a military invention ended up defining the aesthetics of a century.

At soloio we honor that legacy, creating pieces that blend function and style, where design tells a story that never fades.
